I am NOT a Baker

I don’t consider myself a baker, at all, but I LOVE to bake. It is relaxing to me. I get in the kitchen and channel my grandmother and quickly become at ease. Baking is satisfying because you don’t truly get to see the end result until it’s completely finished. A ball of sourdough bread puffs and bakes into a chewy and slightly crispy masterpiece. A cream pie just looks like pudding in a crust until you add fresh whipped cream. Baking is fun and imaginative.

I don’t consider myself a baker because most things I bake require research and study. I can’t whip up most baked goods easily like I can the dishes I make, but I have confidently become a fantastic cheesecake and pie maker — so great that I make them for sale. I’ve become more and more confident in cookie making with every recipe I make thanks to Sally’s Baking Addiction!

I have told countless people that I don’t do cakes.

I get asked all the time if I do and I give a very firm “no” every time. I’ve taken the classes. I’ve watched YouTube videos. I’ve spent time trying to learn from some very talented friends but making cakes pretty is not my thing! My mom says that my sour cream pound cake reminds her of her grandmother’s and that’s all the compliment I need in the cake department.

This is my very poor attempt at individual buttery yellow cakes w/ chocolate frosting for my Mom’s 60th Birthday. I told y'all I don’t do cakes.

While I don’t consider myself a baker, I celebrate National Baking Day with pride. I recall the days of crying while banging my rolling pin on the counter because my pie crust was a hot mess, literally. I have quickly learned that not all delicious baked goods have to be beautiful to be considered show-stoppers.

While looking at the recipes I’ve shared with you all, I’ve been able to see my progress with baked goods.

Baking Tools I Love.

Baking requires the best tools, time and PATIENCE!

Every single item I bake comes with love.

Toffee Pie

Toffee Pie

Love is the most important ingredient for baking (and cooking). It’s love made from simply being in the kitchen, memories from precious time spent with my grandmother, and knowing that what I make for others is being shared with the ones they love. See what baking can do? See what FOOD can do?!

You don’t have to be a baker to love what baking can do. I am NOT a baker but I celebrate today with a heart full of gratitude. Consider baking my most recent recipe. I made this Toffee Pie as a Mother’s Day gift for Bae’s mom. Toffee is her favorite candy and since I’ve been toffee-obsessed with cookies, I thought, “Why not put it in a pie?” I hope you love it as much as she did!
